VIETNAM'S GOWN ALA-CATRIONA AT MISS INTERCONTINENTAL

Indeed, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Netizens noticed how Miss Intercontinental Vietnam 2018 imitated Catriona Gray, Miss Universe 2018, from the red gown design up to the latter's lava walk and pose. While a lot of people had mixed reactions about it, meanwhile, I personally felt flattered about the whole thing because it only demonstrated how our Asian neighbour simply paid homage to our Queen Cat and the Philippines.

Indeed, the Philippines is the new trendsetter in pageantry. To God be the glory!

What's your take on this, guys?

I thought only Miss Grand Imitation / Thailand does this kind of thing. I was proven wrong.

Wow, talagang kitang kita na marami ang humahangang kandidata kay Cat. O ayan meron na tayong Miss Intercontinental. Kelangan talagang i-drop ang Miss Grand International. (translation - Philippines should drop Miss Grand International) for the following reasons:

1. It does not have a cause
2. The owner is an A$_H@le.
3. Do we need another one???

Sa tingin ko, kapag nilaglag natin yan siguradong maraming bansang sasama. Wag na nating pagpilitan, wala namang kwentang pageant yan e

I'm on the fence on this one. Inspiration for those who believed in Cat but drawing flak from those who saw the other way.
Either way, we should see beauty in every which way the comment should go.

True, beautywatchnyc. There had been a lot of praises and criticisms from netizens about it. However, the way I looked at it, I would rather that they imitated the Philippines than the other way around. As what Herman Melville, the famous American novelist in the Renaissance period had said, "It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation"; hence, I would rather choose to be the original than the imitation. On the other hand, the Philippines is like the "big brother" who brought enthusiasm and interest to pageantry to our "younger siblings" --- our Asian neighbours. The "young ones" will always "hero-worship" their "big brothers", so to speak. Thus, I do not take umbridge on this matter when Vietnam imitated the Philippines' red gown and lava walk.

Like what cat said .. see the beauty in every situation and look for the silver lining instead of fostering negativity so children will have a smile on their face

Colombia beat Paraguay for South America division. Unfortunately Paraguay lost the wildcard slot via People's Choice to Vietnam.

It was obviously an imitation, my friend. An imitation is like duplicating an original while an inspiration is more of deconstructing or making something different from an original object, or admiring without appropriating which wasn't the case with Vietnam. I saw Catriona in her gown presentation and not her own "voice", or the form that defined her best as Miss Intercontinental Vietnam. The big difference between imitation and inspiration is the intent. To be inspired is to find your own voice on what you choose to put into the world while to imitate is not.

It's one thing to draw inspiration from and then there's imitating. The former, IMO, is a form of flattery plus it stimulates the mind to equal, if not upgrade the original. Pero kay Miss Vietnam, waley. Talagang ginaya nya and I don't like it. And sorry to be blunt, she ain't facially pretty. :)>-

Facially, not at par with the top 5. But yes, she clinched the "People's Choice" award which qualified her in the magic circle of 6. Ms Vietnam sounded too rehearsed with an answer committed to memory for this competition.
