DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS CONTENTS!

HMMMM, dito ko na ito ipo-post kahit walang kinalaman sa pageants (although pwedeng magbasa dito mga contestants at malaman nila na mali pala nabasa nila sa mga librong ginamit nila noong panahon haha). This is a collection of erroneous sentences found in error-laden textbooks used in the Philippines. I am finishing a thesis on textbooks and while doing my online research, I found these:

1. HIYAS SA PAGBASA 5 ( written by Lydia P. Lalunio, Ph.D., Francisca G. Ril and Patrocinio V. Villafuerte )
--Taong 2998 A.D.
--Si Pres. Garcia ay kumita ng unang liwanag sa Talibon, Bohol.
--Walang ulap kung umaga.
--Ang kahirapan ay hindi sagabal patungong kaitaasan.

2. MASIPAG NA PILIPINO for Grade 3 (written by Grace Estela C. Mateo, Ph.D., Lydia N. Agno, Ed.D., Celinia E. Balonso, Ph.D., Rosita D. Tadena, Ph.D., and Estelita B. Capiña)
--Ang TRENCH ay isang makipot, mahaba at malalim na bahagi ng karagatan sa pagitan n g mga pulo. Dinaraanan ito ng mga barko at iba pang sasakyang pandagat.
--Ang isthmus ay isang piraso ng lupa na napaliligiran ng tubig.
--Ipinagbibili ng mga mangingisda ang kanilang huli sa mga pagawaan ngde-lata. ·

3. AN ENGLISH BOOK I
--Jose Garcia Villa wrote the story "Woman With Two Navels."
--Birds hate being stared at by people.
--Quails stay together in groups called convey. They sleep in circle. If one quail notices something unusual, the whole convey flies away.
--The Philippines has enough rain almost equally distributed throughout the year.
--The typhoon is moving in a northeasternly direction.
--Around the pool is an orientally-designed porch.
--Your parents don't want me around hanging with you.
--Politics, which takes much time, concerns with the affairs of government.
--Most people in fishing countries of the world are fishers.
--Life is the fast rising of the sun that shines on the earth which goes around it fast.
--Life is the late realization that life is gone and we discover it late.

4. ENGLISH BOOK II
--I'm capable of being the best me I can. (3 times )
--Pray whenever you have rage with anyone.
--The city's voice is soft like solitudes.
--There were moments of happiness but they were fragile and fleeting like the sudden grief and fleeting.
--I dipped my tired feet into a basin of water to soothe the ache and fret.
--classical: a phrase or slogan repeated rhythmically
--colonization: art of establishing colonies
--crinkly: full of crinkles
--crystal: clear ice or quarts that is transparent
--CT scan: act of examining minutely -
--knaver: dishonest person -
--mutter: speak distinctly -
--nausea: sickness at the stomach -
--ornamental: a person that adds credit or glory of a society
--phraser: one that coins telling phrases
--retrieve: call to mind again
--shoo: drive away by saying "shoo"
--survival: act of living longer than another person-

5. ENGLISH BOOK III
--Take me to the water breaks.
--Never try to make anyone do anything.
--Rizal made himself famous as a writer.
--Stars seem to twinkle because they are very far away.
--The events in a fable are impossible to happen in real life.

6. AN ENGLISH BOOK IV
--Many Filipino men and women have brains.-
--You should always address the envelop and leave it open.
--The children felt the bridge under them falling.
--He found his friend clowning himself around.
--Sometimes the elephant becomes angry with Kim for fooling the animal around.
--Topic: Sharing To Others
--The dog is a tamer animal than the cat.
--God wants me for a sunbeam to shine for Him each day.
--Francis has five fine fingernails.

6. ENGLISH BOOK V
--Kiosk: a somewhat similar structure open at one or more sides used as a bandstand.
--She bared her bosom and squeezed a drop of milk into each barren ear of the weeds.
--He seemed to be waiting for someone, not a blood relation, much less a bad blood.
--In bullfighting, the bulls are not the ones which fight with each other.
--It is very dangerous to face a bull that has been played with.
--"Here's for you!" the guard said while hitting Basilio.
--People are not made to float like a bird.-
--Mother Teresa was always there to color the world of cancer patients.-
--Just like human beings, books suffer and die early when treated cruelly and denied the basic necessities in life.

7. ENGLISH BOOK VI
--Fort Santiago was the fortress used by Rajah Soliman as his protection against the Spaniards.
--I don't lay like a hen on her eggs in the nest when there are things I can do.
--Early kites were very large leaves. The string was a piece of vine.
--A flat plate is on the flower plant.
--Galileo invented a magnifying telescope to study the moon.-
--Seeing a rainbow in the sky is like a dream that disappears that's why
--A child wants it painted permanently in the sky.-
--Science is what we find out by studying the world around us.-
--Our country is not only the most beautiful country in the East but also has the richest natural resources.
--Look at the sky at night. You see the moon and the stars. Then you see
--Lightning flashes and you hear thunder before the downpour of rain.
--Why is the sky? And why is the sky?

8. ENGLISH BOOK VII
--Use EBONY soap for whiter skin.
--Drink TURTLE'S CHOICE power drink. Turtles are born with a shell and a bone.
--We grow our hogs in our own farms so you're sure to get meat that is grown.
--As the campers trek through the trail at the rainboat they'll stop now and then.
--Some birds sing for the joy of singing and others for purpose.
--The mountain climber was flown off his feet.
--The national anthem sounds so high that we cannot reach the pitch.
--I succeeded opening the package and my eyes rolled big over a ball.
--The daily policeman reports to his post in the morning. He stands straight watching the vehicles go by. Those who stop late for the red light are apprehended.

9. ENGLISH BOOK VIII
--Choke: stop breath by blocking the windpipe. The baby was choke from eating biscuits.
--Mt. Makiling is located along the borders of Laguna and Tayabas.
--Beetles eat trees.
--The bat licks itself like a cat; after washing up, it flies away.

Yung iba dyan mahirap i-correct kasi conceptual errors. Hahahaha! Nababaliw ako sa mga librong yan. When I worked at Diwa Scholastic Press, I was asked to edit a grade five English textbook which said that the plural of chick is chicken. Susmarya!
