Miss International - getting bigger!

in previous years, there were posts asking “which is the most beautiful pageant crown?”
And I always answer “THE MISS INTERNATIONAL CROWN” not the MW or Mikimoto crowns.

Why? Because among all pageants in the world today the MI crown had only minimal alterations in its design and the organisation is safeguarding it very well. The security around the crown is really tight. I remember that they only ask their reigning queens to wear a replica in their public appearances.

I also find it the most prestigious and regal among the alpha crowns. Prestigious because the winner is chosen without biases and corruption involve. The girls are judge not only when they are on stage but more so during their pre pageant activities. Also the judges are credible — well the Japanese in general are credible.

The crown is regal because unlike other crowns, it has its queenly appeal and not merely a swarm of wires and diamonds or pearls hooked together. It is very symbolic and iconic in the pageant world.

I do believe that MI is getting more attention at the start of this decade. The reform that they did in the last five years is starting to blossom. Now, its the top crown in Bb. Pilipinas and Miss New Zealand (they dropped the MW franchise). The quality of candidates and winners are also better as compared to previous years. I do hope that they improve their production and stage design but maintain the speech section. It is what separates them from other pageants.

I think they need to crown an African girl especially a black one and it would be complete.

Then we better call African nations to send quality and crown-worthy candidates. People must accept the reality that unlike some pageants who crown girls just to cater to their target markets (fanbase) such as Miss World Org., we expect MIO to follow their own beat, set their own pace and damn the trends. Never expect MIO to crown an African, a black one, just to ride the so called "black girl magic" or even to silence their bashers.

Last year's Uganda was the classic "the one who got away..." :%(( :%(( :%(( But everything happens for a reason, and Bint was simply unstoppable that night. Further proof that MI won't manipulate the result in order to please the public or to be politically correct.

I think this is the only pageant in the big four that is not marred by controversies before and after the pageant. People may disagree with the winner but you can't see politics played a role in selecting the winner. Japanese judges' reputations remained untarnished until this time.

Yes... some choices may not be the best choice or the most popular choice, but the result was always based on the judging tally.

I have the same sentiments about the MI crown, for me it is very classic and regal.
but I have to say the crowning ceremony of MW is very royal.

MI is quite known for that anyway. Last year's winner only had 3000 followers on Instagram before she won. She had beaten the heavy favorite from Mexico who already had more than 500,000 followers prior to arrival in Japan. Two of them in the Top 3 only had less 3000 or less followers. The MI judges are not informed who has a lot of followers or whatnot. It really depends on overall performance and the charisma.

What’s your take on Patch’s performance? Did her speech cost her the crown or a top 5 spot?

Only the judges can answer that. Some judges liked her speech, some didn't. But it's NOT just about the speech anyway. It's also about what they saw from the start of the final gala competition. You know, judges would normally make up their mind whom to vote even before the speech.

Will the 86 contestant cap continue, especially this edition will be held weeks after 2020 Tokyo Olympics?

Yes, when it comes to fairness, Miss International seem to have pull ahead of the others. Miss World...I have yet to know how the winner is selected other than there was a whole bunch of challenges and side contests before the final night and I can only assume these played a role.

Miss Universe, this pageant created the very definition of sash factor and powerhouse countries since its inception. The last decade it has been totally dominated by the powerhouse countries and sometimes I wonder why other countries even bother as their reps often get eliminated in the first round even if they made the cut.

Miss Earth, a Filipino ran pageant that crowned three Miss Philippines in a 4 year period. Only Miss World did that with India and India doesn't run the pageant. Still Miss World crowned three Miss UKs as Miss World but in a 5 year span. Miss International didn't crown a Japanese until 2012 and only once. At Miss Universe, the USA won three times in a 7 year period which was then broken by Venezuela with three crowns in a 6 year period.

Miss International has a chance of overtaking Miss World if only they play their cards right. They just need t make their coronation night shorter and more exciting.

I like Miss international because they crown beautiful woman after all it is a beauty pageant. Miss World is pure cooking show. If some countries wanted to host the cooking show Morley will let that country win or place higher. It is very obvious if you follow their yearly activities and where they go or where they visit.
Miss Earth I think why the Philippines won three crown in the span of 4 years is that the other countries are not really doing their homework on how to win. They just send beautiful ladies. Miss Earth has their own criteria which is very different from other beauty pageant.
I lost interest in Miss Universe when a donkey looking creature won the pageant.

The number of candidates are getting bigger and bigger but they can't find a right mainstream TV network like NHK, TV Tokyo, TV Asahi, Fuji TV, etc. to air the pageant? I hope the 2020 Tokyo Olympics publicity will find their advantage to it.

Japanese TV stations do NOT like airing live shows. As much as possible, they would rather do a taped version, edit it, and then show them on screen. And you know the time that MI starts the pageant, right? 2:00 PM! =;)) Hikari TV was already a miracle in itself... For pageantry, mainstream channels are unnecessary in this day and age. With YouTube and Facebook live stream, money can be invested wisely!

I love that they don't care about ratings and popularity. They just do their thing, Miss World and Miss Universe are struggling to make pageants cool. It will forever be a third world thing, and it's not the eighties anymore.
