My thoughts on the 2018 pageants.

Image

Miss Universe

I like the prelude leading to the opening showing the Thai performers before Ne-Yo's performance. It gives so much excitement, that it makes you look forward to what the show will offer as it progresses. To be honest almost everything about the show is perfect except for host - Steve Harvey.

IMG needs to invest on a more visually good looking hosts than Harvey, Sierra and Kressley. Steve Harvey is not even as energetic as he was when he started the show in 2015.

I agree that the show is all about women empowerment. From the all women judges, to highlighting Angela Ponce's story, to the runway stage. Everything screams about celebrating women and femininity.

I also like that they have kept that Thai spirit in the show by having the Thai performers in the opening, the backdrops from the LED and of course the cape on the swimsuit round which if my memory serves me right was designed by the Thai princess herself. This is something they were not able to capitalize on the show they had in another Asian soil in 2016. Too bad that country has a lot to offer when it comes to culture.

I also like the speeches this year. It gives viewers an insight on how the girls talk and think. Hope they continue that in the years to come. Overall hands down to Miss Universe show this year.

Image

Miss World

This years pageant activities is more exciting compared to the last 2 years of this pageant. I love how the head-to-head challenge was presented. I just don't like how winners were chosen to move to the next round by online voting. This give countries with less population and countries that are not too tech savvy with low votes. I like Miss Philippines but I think there are other countries in her group that stood out and performed better than her. I feel like countries like Ecuador, Hong Kong, Haiti and so many others should have moved to the next round but then again voting results matter.

I also love how the girls are presented on the opening videos by continents.

I also like the dances of the world segment except the girls holding the flags. :-O :-O

What I didn't like is the opening dance. The 2014 opening is much better where all the girls are parading through an energetic song and goes right after to the dances of the world segment.

The opening dance this year and last year is just too much for a pageant, doesn't look like an international event anymore but more of a local variety type of show. When the girls came out on their casual/running shoes/sneakers/athletic shoes or how you may refer to it in your countries is a total disappointment!. =O/ =O/ =O/

The choreography by Donna Darby is too tacky. Miss World needs to understand that not all girls can dance hip-hop. I don't even know if its hip-hop but the hell I care. A few hand and leg movement is enough. This tacky dance step made the girls move unevenly and uncoordinated. It's very evident on the camera. And a major UGHHHHH on the hosts dancing on the opening trying to be cool!!!!! %-( %-( ~X( ~X(

Although we don't understand how the girls were selected during the finals, I think Mexico is a hands down winner from the beginning like Philippines for Miss Universe

Image

Miss Earth

The opening is superb! The dance, to the introduction, to the music. Everything is well thought of.

I also like that they did not heavily relied on the LED and the ornaments on the stage has definitely given the life a pageant stage needs.

I would have wanted a different segment for the announcing of the finalist and the evening gown segment. combining the two just doesn't suit my taste. We are not able to capture natural and genuine reactions from the girls as soon as they are selected because they are all pre-condition to stay and act classy as they are rated for beauty and poise. Anyway others like it.

I also like how the previous winners are valued by having their own final walk. I like Karen. She is very classy in all ways. Karen Ibasco, Catriona Gray and Ahtisa Manalo are the best beauty queens that the Philippines offered the world stage this year.

One thing Miss Earth should polish is the crowning moment. They should have given the first runner up her share of limelight and crowning moment on TV before crowning the winner. I was thinking it could have been better if they have brought Phoung Khanh at the backstage and call her again by "Let us again welcome the Miss Earth 2018. Miss Vietnaaaam!!! before crowning her. that could have been epic!

Image

Miss International

The opening could have been better if they had used a better cloth on the opening. The girls standing at the back is very evident on TV. Have you also captured the guy pulling the cloth out of the stage?. That's just ridiculous.

I also don't like the long production piece of the kids. Although they are good but the long 15 minute performance is just too much.

What I don't understand is that they had a pre-pageant for the swimsuit round and they again added another swimsuit competition in the finals. Makes me think if the scores of the pre-pageant activity were disregarded. If they have eliminated the swimsuit round for all the girls in the finals and just made the top 15 paraded, then they have not dragged their audience to a staggering 4 hours pageant.

Nevertheless the pageant has given me the excitement specially when announcing the winners.

I like that this pageant is trying its best to evolve and still keep their identity and uniqueness from other pageants.

I also agree that Venezuela and the Philippines are the only two worthy for the crown.

Image

Miss Supranational

I like that the show has given the girls their own spotlight, their own time to shine. The hosts looks pleasing to the eyes. I guess I like the opening last year compared to this year.

Kudos to this pageant too for being so fair and equal. They have allowed Miss Denmark to participate, this is the contestant with only 1 arm. She even made it to the top 25. She is really beautiful.

One thing I have noticed is that they have referred the pageant now as Miss SUPERnational although spelled as supra and was referred as Supra for the last nine years of its existence.

They have created a really exciting show but I think Miss United States should have won. If i have it my way I would replace Miss Indonesia, Miss Poland and Miss Mexico in the top 5 and have Miss Romania, Miss Venezuela, Miss Vietnam or Miss Philippines.

The last 2 girls are obviously nervous as they keep on biting their lips. I know that both of Miss United States and Miss Puerto Rico knew that its a close fight between the both of them.

I also like the mood on their evening gown segment. So classy the backdrop and lighting fit the segment so well.

Overall its is a well crafted show.

Image

Miss Intercontinental

Impressive! Not because the Philippines won but the the production value is far better than the Sri Lankan and Egyptian edition of this pageant. It is also important to note that this year is their most number of participating countries with a total number of 83. The organization is also highly commendable for staging their pre-pageant competition in a very modest presentation. (Watch out Miss Earth).

I love the opening simple yet it has given me the excitement to look forward what the show has to offer. Everything is fast paced. The finalist they selected were I believe also the ones that performed the best during the pre-pageant competitions.

I thought that having one of the members of The Platters will make the interval act a little boring but to my surprise has been liken by the audience a lot. I just feel that the final look parade was kind of fast that it didn't give the judges and the audience a better glimpse of the final 6. Considering that they have changed their outfit for the coronation. Talking about the gowns. What the H-E double LL is Miss Vietnam and her team was thinking of parading an almost exact concept and look of Catriona's gown?. I am very certain that if not for her people's choice award she would have not made it to the final 6.They could also have chosen a better question. This is just my personal thought. Also the Nigerian host talks so fast and a bit hard to understand. (I cannot blame Miss Guatemala).

I love the excitement when announcing the winner. The music suits the crowning really well. overall this years Miss Intercontinental has proven the world that they are indeed the next to watch out for a spot in the Big 5. Kudos MIO Org!.

Image

Miss Gwand International

I like the opening video that showcases the beauty of Myanmar to the world. The music is exciting too but the moment it changes to the live show everything went downhill.

Maria Jose's opening dance suit is too much. It looks more of something a showgirl would wear in a brothel.

This pageant need to find ways on how the girls would present themselves in the opening. Everything is too amateurish and does not fit for an international event. Now that Miss Universe has eliminated this on their opening, I wonder how this pageant will do it by next year.

I don't know anything about technical but the stage looks really dark and small on TV.

I don't want to comment anymore on the fainting as a respect to the girl. Whether true or not I want to give it to her.

Maria Jose is a very well spoken girl better than the previous queens they had so I expect more of Clara this year.

Image

Miss Globe

This pageant is promising. I like the opening video. This pageant has done a very unique way of presenting a pageant.

Its also commendable that this year's Miss Globe contestants has also toured the country of Montenegro.

They now have Q&A segment. Although among the top 5 finalist the winner who is from China was the only one who did not answer the question. I guess the winner is the highest scorer in all segment of the competition. She was on point from the swimsuit, national costume all the way to the evening gown competition.

What I don't like is that there are too many performers on the show. I think more than 5 singers has performed. This doesn't include the two performance from the host herself.

I just hope they can get really good interpreters. Miss China and Miss Turkey absolutely without a doubt was lost in translation. Actually a lot of lost translation happened, The host keep on referring to the last years winner not as Miss Globe 2017 but as Miss Vietnam.

I also did not understand when the winner was not able to crown her successor. Another thing noticeable are the crowns of the runners up. It is identical to the crown worn by Stefania Fernandez in 2009 Miss Universe.

Then again this pageant is I must say still impressive. The pageant is also shown on the national TV via the Albanian Public Television. Not all pageant this year has the support of a local TV network.

Image

Miss Tourism Queen International

This is another pageant that needs a lot of recalibration amongst its team members. They could have a separate event to award those sponsor awards.

They could have chosen a more energetic song for the opening considering that the girls are wearing their national costumes. I also so do not like that the owner of the pageant is in every awarding ceremony. He had the most exposure than all of the girls.

I also hope they have included a taste of Malaysian culture on the finals. This was not seen on the stage and the whole show other than presenting the all Malaysian judges.

Now good points. You can clearly see how they choose their winner. Just like Miss International, all the girls paraded and were scored on their runway and presentation skills.

The sash is very unique and pleasing to the eyes. The stage is decent for an international event. The venue is incredibly perfect too.

The three host were incredible. You guys have to see this pageant to appreciate it. Then again you cannot compare this Miss Universe. Miss Universe, MW ME MI and MS is on a different league.

This pageant will surely evolve and we will soon witness a breathtaking show in the years to come.

Image

Miss Asia Pacific International

Another amazing show. simple yet elegant. I like that they really tried to reinvent. The show is definitely much better than their last 2 years after its re-staging.

I love the camera angles. The long shots are perfect. It made the stage really bigger. The backdrops used in every segment just sets the right mood for the audience.
They also have a runway used by the girls for parading. If I don't know that this is Miss Asia Pacific International, I would have mistaken this pageant to be Miss Universe in its early times with Trump.

I wouldn't be surprise if more directors will be interested in their franchise. I know it's not a far reach for this pageant to be something like a Miss Supranational caliber.

This is the most decent and well organized show next to Miss Universe. Everything is in order all the way to the crowning moment. Although it's really obvious that Sharifa's answers are all rehearsed. Nevertheless she was able to match her perfectly rehearsed answer to the final question hence she won.

How I wish they have added something on the stage design and included some Filipino culture on the show. Nevertheless, the show is great and entertaining.

Image

Reina HispanoAmericana

The show has lived up to the Latin expectation of its viewer. Teresita is a superb winner. She has maintained her poise and class in all her interviews all throughout the pageant. I like her in the opening. She looks divine like a Latin goddess protecting the Bolivian Lake Titicaca.

Her Community work as Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 was shown on Bolivian National TV. She looks more beautiful in her final walk compared to when she competed last year. Philippines should be proud of this woman. Un trabajo tan magnífico y felicidades Teresita!

A lot of the girls are tad short and the camera angels makes them look even more shorter. To be honest there are only a handful contestants worthy of the crown.

The lighting throughout the whole pageant has not changed. There are a lot of people walking around and passing by the camera.

Miss Filipinas wore a gown with crystal embroidery depicting the Philippine flag. Although impressive but the I don't think that the Latin community much more the audience in Bolivia would know that her gown has national symbolism.

I also don't like that the girls paraded in their evening gowns through the song "Baby hit me one more time" by Britney Spears. Yes this is indeed the song on the EG segment of the show. They could have serenaded the girls with some Latin Mariachi or Accompaniment of a Symphony Orchestra. Add the fact that the three singers on the Evening Gown segment are so out of tune.

Anyway the winner is so beautiful and overall the pageant is entertaining.

Image

Miss Multinational

The newest pageant, now on their 2nd year. So many things that Glamanand need to review with their staging of the pageant. The whole show is a mess from start to finish. The comments by the host makes the pageant much more less attractive and interesting. She even uttered to Nikhil Anand, the President and CEO of Miss Multinational the words like "whats happening to your people, they don't know what to do?'

Their first year had huge issues already (online voting which was closed during the pageant and was opened after couple of minutes and voila! Miss India 2017 is now leading the chart) and the second year is a total mess. I feel bad for those girls who exerted their full effort to be at their best for this pageant. I don't understand how Glamanand staged this disorderly when they are very much capable of staging a show of international standard like their local pageant selecting for Miss Earth.

The saving grace of this pageant is the winner who is absolutely beautiful and smart. I hope that these setbacks will not discourage other NDs to get the franchise of this pageant. One good point about this pageant is that they tried to innovate and get away with any of their contemporaries. Still this pageant is a long way to go before international media and pageant fans to take them seriously.

Focusing more on the strong points rather than what needs done for the pageant's future editions, respectively. Gives us a glimpse of the writer behind the by-lines in a very good way. Kudos!

With the other pageants, I just visited Misso for updates on who wins. And I move on.

Mama Julia used France as a decoy. In reality, she already picked Mexico as her winner months before the pageant. :D/ :D/

Nice review. I hope the other pageants step up in terms of prepageant activities and finals night production.

As much as I want to follow these major pageants as an avid pageant fan, only Miss Universe and Miss Earth sustained my interest from start to finish. Even up to now, I can keep on rewatching both pageant's finals night unlike others which is quite unbearable.

That's the reality of Mess Whoreld.

2016, PH was the decoy
2017, it was Indonesia
2018, it's France.

I just finished watching Miss Universe which is the only other pageant I watched in full after Miss Earth. Both are entertaining to me but ME is more nerve-wracking to me since I watched it live.

Maria Jose is a very well spoken girl better than the previous queens they had so I expect more of Clara this year.

Still this pageant is a long way to go before international media and pageant fans to take them seriously.

did you guys notice that Filipinos dominated the 2018 pageantry, whether winning the crown or passing on the crown to the next winner. Indeed Long Live the Philippines... Mabuhay!!!
