Miss America 2019 - New Scoring System Post-Swimsuit

Postby wanderlustwoman » Sun Jul 08, 2018 7:15 pm

Original Announcement of Changes

* Miss America is no longer a BEAUTY PAGEANT, it is a COMPETITION
* Women will no longer be judged on outward physical appearance
* Contestants/Delegates are now to be referred to as "candidates"
* No more swimsuit, and evening gown portion will be revamped.
* Gretchen is pushing the #MeToo movement
* As always, don't forget that it's a SCHOLARSHIP organization

Description of Changes for 92nd Miss America Pageant

Preliminary Breakdown
50% - Talent
20% - Interview w/ Judges
15% - Evening Wear
15% - On Stage Question

Finals Breakdown
25% - Composite of Prelim Score
30% - Talent
25% - Interview w/ Judges
20% - Evening Wear
Final Conversation & Final Ballot

A huge reason why more young women in the US are moving to Miss USA, Miss Earth, Miss United States, and other systems is because of the talent, not swimsuit portion.

Thoughts? Who will be tuning in to Miss America's Got Talent this September?

It reminded me of my country's noontime variety show program pageant segment in the 90's where swimsuit competition are not included.

I don't understand why Talent is so important for this competition, it's unfair and honestly insane.

Talent is the most anticipated part of the competition. It has a lot of ratings. I think they should also allow trans women to compete.

Then just officially call it a talent show or talent competition, forget the evening gown and just make it 50% talent and 50% interview; they should stop pretending they are like anything close to a pageant or anything remotely close.

Don't get me wrong its not that I hate what they are doing. I just don't like that they still market as some type of pageant even if its remotely.

Like just revamp it completely and make it a full schorlaship program you have to win via a talent show and a portion of interviews; that's all. It's obvious they been wanting to do that for decades now, just do it and be free. I hope I'm making sense of what I mean

What I mean is that they still have certain parts of it that are still part of when it was a pageant, they should just take away the evening gown part and stuff like that and just completely revamp it. Not just partly. It looks akward that they will keep things like Evening Gown in what is essencially a talent show/job interview; maybe when we see it televise it will more harmonious. But reading it, it gives me a mental picture of this weird hybrid intermediate competitions. It's not shade, its just that maybe in the final night it will make more sense.

I'm guessing now forums won't follow it or report on it now though right?

Can I just wear a two-piece bikini and a pair of six-inch heels during the interview portion?

I agree that it now looks like a glorified job interview with talent and evening gown. I wished that they considered doing a fitness/leisurewear wear segment in lieu of taking out swimsuit.

I think it would be hilarious! I also wish that next year some of the states do a swimsuit opening number at their pageants! That would a nice :finger: to the pageant organizers.

It's just a competition of whatever it is. Not something to watch out for or look forward to or even talk about it. By beauty department, for years, Miss America was never a beauty pageant to begin with. There's not much of a change anyway. So... go on. I dont remember watching this anyway.
