Dream Team for 2018 - Philippines

Postby cairene06 » Thu Jan 25, 2018 6:49 am

I guess the pageant season never stops in the Philipines. Less than 3 months after the Miss Universe pageant, here comes Binibining Pilipinas. Here are the girls that I am currently rooting for:

Mary Joy De Castro & Wynonah Buot
I love these girls. They have class and substance and they can convey their thoughts intelligently and in perfect English. LOL. Despite being relatively new to pageants, they look confident in front of the camera. They are perfect examples of what a WOMAN should be--articulate, has a strong sense of self, dignified and subtly beautiful. Although their facial beauty might be on the lower side of the spectrum (compared to the likes of Catriona, Karen, Ahitsa), I love the symmetry of their faces and their facial bone structure. They both have strong Southeast Asian looks, and with the right styling, they can be packaged as exotic, Asian beauties. They also have solid backstories and they tell them beautifully without the "paawa mode".

Eva Patalinjug
I was surprised at how intelligent Eva is. Honestly, her team should keep her away from tanning creams/lotions because it's ruining her good looks. And her veneers should be removed ASAP. Eva is already perfect as she is, they should keep to the adage: "Do not fix what's not broken." It's not everyday that we come across a Filipina who is tall, who has a great body, a beautiful face and intelligence to match her facial beauty. And her communication skill is on point! I want to see more personality from her though, a little flirtatiousness...but I wouldn't be surprised if she gets one of the major crowns.

Michelle Gumabao
I love this girl's exuberance and vivaciousness. She has great communication skills and does not give pageant patty answers. And she registers beautifully on the camera too. If ever she wins a crown, I hope to God her handlers wouldn't "overtrain" or "overbake" her; she should keep that "ingenue" thing going. Her inexperience is really working to her advantage because she does not try to fit the mold of a typical beauty queen and she comes off as somebody unique and original.

Catriona Gray
It's Catriona Gray. Do I need to say more? :!!

PS: She does need to lose a bit of weight and tone her muscles. That's it!

Suprise: Angelie Asuncion
I actually enjoyed her web interview. This girl is beautiful and she what she lacks in communication skills, she more than make up for in terms of natural charm. She's has something about her that I really liked--maybe because she sounds genuine? I don't know. I really hope she performs well during the pageant because as of now, she's one of the most underrated and overlooked girls.

Karen Gallman
What a pretty face, and nice Aussie accent too. Hehe

Disappointment:
Vickie Rushton & Murielle Orais
These girls have "THE FACE". They're so pretty and I really want them to get a crown or at least place as runners-up. But their communication skills leave much to be desired. They sounded rehearsed. I think they need to loosen up a bit and let their real personality shine through--because at this point, they fit the mold of a pageant patty girl.

Sigrid Flores & Samantha Bernardo
Confidence is a good thing, but overdoing it can turn people off. I hate to use the term, but only one thing came to mind while I was watching their videos: Trying hard (and not in a good way.)

Gone are the days when a pageant patty girl rules the pageant scene. I really want to be represented by a modern Filipina woman (full-blooded or not) who is not all about looks but also about substance. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for my fave ladies and I hope they all do well.

PS: Filipino fans are divided and have their own personal faves. I just hope that when the crowns are already placed on the heads of the winners, we remember that despite our difference, we are all one team--Team Philippines. May the best girls win!

I have viewed most (not all yet) web interviews and those that stood out are:

1. Catriona Gray
2. Michelle Gumabao
3. Kayesha Chua
4. Trixia Marie Marana
5. Samantha Bernardo
6. Juliann Baino
7. Annalita Vizcarra
8. Janice Roman
9. Sigrid Flores
10. Wynonah Joy Buot
11. Sandra Lemonon
12. Loren Artajos
13. Karen Gallman
14. Athisa Manalo
15. Eva Patalighug

Yes, after watching the web interviews I had sooo many surprises in my list, names that didn't even ring a bell during the announcement of the 40 official candidates. I will give you examples. Dr.Ena Evasco was among my favourites because of her credentials but she wasn't that impressive with her interview. Another favourite of mine which I was really disappointed is Anjame, the girl has difficulty in the communication department. Another charming lady that disappointed me is Agatha Romero. You have to view and listen well to what they are saying and how they are expressing themselves in order for you to have a better perspective of who are most likely to advance to the top 15 semi-final round. And I will end this by saying that one of the WEAKEST WEB INTERVIEWS is that of . . . (drums please hahahaha) no other than --- AYA ABESAMIS!

Sirene Sutton and Charmaine Elima will have slim chances if they joined this batch. Most of this year's batch are top notch ladies!

What's BANLAG? Anyways, I really love Jehza. It's about time she'll get a crown. She just have to be consistent with her styling though. And girl needs to eat.
